Ryan Leech - Athlete, Bike Trials & Yoga

Ryan Leech, 31 years old, lives with his wife Caryn in Port Moody, BC, and has been making a living as a Professional Mountain Biker for 12 years. He has performed his live Trials Stunt Show over 2000 times to audiences all over the world. With his creative riding style, Leech progressed the boundaries of the sport through his performance in 25 feature mountain bike films. He has produced three of his own, which lead to multiple film festival awards. Healthy development is what he hopes to inspire, both on and off the bike. Leech created a school presentation called 'Trials of Life' to encourage students to take a heart based approach in finding their own unique ability, gift, or talent; then encouraging them to align that discovery to fulfill a need in the world. As a Certified Yoga Instructor, Ryan is offering yoga classes wherever his Stunt Show schedule takes him. He has also created a program called Ride and Reach combining Mountain Bikes and Yoga to fully explore and embrace this fantastic combination of adrenaline and bliss. Sponsors such as Norco Bikes, Shimano, Ryders Eyewear, and Mace Clothing help provide the support needed for Leech to continue spreading the good vibe.

As in climbing, so in art, so in life.  In all three the full spectrum of emotions come into play.  At times there will be uncertainty, insecurity and fear.  At other times there will be inspiration and things will flow effortlessly. Ultimately it is amazing that we are here at all.  The more time we spend expressing ourselves through actions and thoughts the more richly we have lived.  Climbing and art are two of the greatest vehicles I have found to carry me this direction.

Cody Forest Doucette - Adventure Photographer

Cody Forest Doucette was born in the heartland of Wisconsin, raised in the mountains of Idaho, and educated on the beaches of California at UC-Santa Barbara. He currently resides in Ketchum, Idaho, when not chasing perfect moments around the globe. This pursuit has taken him to 15 countries on four continents. Cody's work has been published in Men's Journal, The Surfer's journal and Wavefinder /Snowfinder Publications. His commercial portfolio includes photographs for Salomon, Blizzard, and Sun Valley Company.


Kathleen Egan - Activist/Artist/Athlete

Kathleen is a Harvard MBA grad, a great skier, surfer and overall athlete, an environmental activist and an artist. She is a woman who truly embodies the goals of SATELite Foundation. While overseeing the plastics committee in San Francisco with Surfrider Foundation she has come to raise awareness about the amount of consumption that leads to excessive plastic waste in our ocean. Her project: Riding the Plastic Wave brings together her eco-activism and athletic nature through an artists expression.

Arne Backstrom - Athlete, Professional Skier

Skiing is a beautiful way to travel in alpine terrain. It provides access to amazing places while leaving only a fleeting trail and allows one to interact with a huge amount of terrain in a short period of time. It allows effortless speed and grace over what would otherwise be scarcely navigable terrain. It’s a simple game of resisting and manipulating gravity, and is made possible by the most vital of substances. I am continually amazed and always grateful that this crazy sport exists and has progressed to its current state. It should be encouraging to all that the smoothest, best skiers on the mountain are almost always the older guys and gals who have perfected the art of matching speed and turn shape with snow and terrain. With the right amount of power and control, skiing is low impact, a great workout, and can be practiced for a lifetime. I plan to do so, but my biggest concern is rising temperatures and unpredictable weather patterns. Most skiers have already noticed that things are getting weird, with feast-or-famine snow years and wild weather. Though it may make for a great season here and there, it’s disturbing and indicates that we need to change our ways so that our sport may continue in as many places as possible. Skiers have special incentive to do their part with responsible energy consumption and helping the environmental movement gain momentum.

Mikey Wier - Athlete/Cinematographer, Fly Fishing & Adventure

In addition to fly guiding and snowboarding, Mikey started and runs Burl Productions. Burl fuses the ski/surf style of video making with the blossoming sport of fly-fishing and environmental awareness. Burl Productions is the first fishing-oriented production to bring non-instructional fishing highlights and entertainment-based videos to the market. Their first release was FISH EYE Fly Fishing Video Magazine in 2001. They then filmed and released FISH EYE 2 the next season. In 2003, Mikey traveled to South America with a couple of up-and-coming fly fisherman from the North West and filmed the first Trout Bum Diaries. In 2006, Burl embarked on a set of trips around the globe to film the ultimate fly-fishing adventure video. They filmed in Mongolia, Brazil, Christmas Island, Belize, Utah, California, Louisiana and the Florida Keys, with some of the most talented anglers on the planet, in search of the "soul of fly-fishing." The result was SOULFISH, which has been dubbed fly fishing's answer to the Bruce Brown surf classic, The Endless Summer. With Mikey still in charge, Burl Productions continues to pride itself on producing the most exciting fishing, conservation and lifestyle videos available today. Premiering at SATELite 2010 is Mikey's latest production: GREEN RUSH.
